Fools Rush In

Once, I touched your skin. And you didn’t seem to mind.

Now I touch your skin but neither of us can feel it.

They say fools rush in where angels fear to tread. I wonder how they knew and why it came to be said, sadness in my eyes as I stare at you from across the table.

Lucky 7

So I got tagged by the rather lovely @Scath in her Lucky 7 post and, as such, it is my duty to carry on the rather delicious meme.

Now what is this meme, you ask? Well…

My Heroine Pretend

I think it’s funny how people come to view you if they haven’t really looked to see behind the surface world. Recently an old friend told me that he thought I’d hated him and the other boys that were in our friend group.

Maybe it seemed that way to them because I was a prickly, defensive thing (I still am when I want to be), but they have to admit they made fun of me quite a bit. All I was doing was reacting to that in my own way – protecting myself. I always have done. I’ve always had reason to.

It wasn’t anything to do with hating them. I never had reason to hate them.

Start a War

Aston pressed his face against the window only to meet the eyes of his twin. She scowled, angry and vengeful. Moments later, the door burst open in a flash of fire.

“What are you doing?” he hissed. “Is it really clever to do that in public?”

“Is it this? Is it that? What? Why? When? Where do you get off questioning me all the time?” Murder smouldered in her gaze. “She deserves it, anyway.”

Translucent Solids

Brick crushing bone is what she’d expected the first time. The second time she’d punched harder, twisting on her heel and landing in a scrabbled heap on the corrugate carpeted floor, knuckles untouched.

No blood. No pain. No graze.

Crimson Sheets

I don’t like people often.

What I mean to say is... I don't like guys often.

There's the occasional fleeting crush that I know won't work out and that I wouldn't want to work out. They don't bother me. They're usually just a silly giddy feeling that I'm never going to act on.

Royal Lip Service

A smile. Black hair. Cool lips. He watched as her pupils dilated close to him in the confines of the school showers.

Her breathing was shallow, just like her.

Take Apart The Demon, In The Attic To The Left.

Let’s see… Things that have happened. Well, my birthday night out for one, but I will talk about that after this first important bit that happened two days later.

My cat, unfortunately, died.

Obviously the above is an old photo of us together, back when I only wore glasses and had my natural hair colour (in case you were wondering). His name was Smokey and he was a beautiful cat despite his discrepancies.

Belial Bairns

He pushed the word around his plate, its sallow skin seeping red essence. His mother wouldn’t understand. She would think they were more of his ‘nonsense words’. If only she could comprehend his great creativity.

Destruction is a kind of creation.

He smiled and pushed the word again until it was perfectly aligned, juice dripping from its gelatinous spine. Inventing was his favourite. Creating destruction… It was a delicious past time.

I’ll hold another one next weekend and hope slightly more people enter. If you can help by promoting it on your blogs, twitter, G+, facebook, tumblr etc, that would be great. Flash Fiction No. 75

A Real Howl

Yeast. Yeast and stale peppermint. Those were the smells that drifted up from the cracked window ledge. Paint peeled like old skin. Smoke and breath kissed the glass with tepid contempt as she flicked her cig, ash dripping into the teacup that reeked of last night’s beverages.

She stared with unseeing eyes through the glass. Would Suki remember her admission or had it died in a whorl of alcohol infused brain cells? She’d passed out shortly afterwards in a combination of drink and fear, curled in a drool stained patch on the floor.
